Antique Appraisals

Ever wonder if your antique items are of value? Over 35 residents, family members, and members of the local community discovered the value of their items when they attended Juniper Village at Forest Hills 4th Annual Trash or Treasure: Antique Appraisal event this past Saturday. Guests brought in a variety of antique items including: beer steins, lamps, vases, oriental rugs, statues and old toys. Those attending received free value appraisals by local educator, antique shop owner, and appraiser, Ernest Grindle; along with an education on the different types of china, what to look for in a painting and how to tell if an item is truly valuable or merely has sentimental value. Whether their items were valuable or not, everyone attending truly treasured the presentation.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day!!  And what better way to celebrate the holiday than with a variety of Irish activities all week long...... the week started with Residents making Irish decorations and felt satchels for holding their lucky gold Irish coins.   Residents learned how to dance the Irish jig with a wonderful dance performance by Katelyn Urbanek from the Pittsburgh Irish Center, and concluded on St. Patrick's Day with a delicious Irish Stew lunch and an afternoon of Irish jokes and musical entertainment by Bernie Myer. As you can see...the Irish eyes were smiling!!  Happy St. Patrick's Day!

TheraLink Vitality Check

On Tuesday, March 8th, from 10:00 am to noon, Juniper Village at Forest Hills hosted our first TheraLink Vitality check. The TheraLink Vitality Check program is a new initiative designed by Juniper Communities and Genesis Therapy as a way to assess the needs  of Juniper Village's residents. Genesis Therapy along with members of the Juniper Village Management Team and Medical Staff assessed over 25 residents on a variety of areas such as: physical, emotional, environmental, social, cognitive and intellectual well being.  "Information gathered from these Vitality Check programs will enable our staff to better understand and meet the needs of our residents," states Janet Wangler, Juniper Village at Forest  Hills' Executive Director. "Today's event was the first of many. With plans for additional TheraLInk Vitality assessments to be conducted on a monthly basis." March 2016 Events in Pittsburgh, PA: Your Treasure is Within

As we bring down the curtain on our Creative Expressions series we focus this month on Drama. Juliette Binoche said, “I think acting is about forgetting yourself in order to give the best of yourself. It's passing through you more than you're creating it. You're not the flower, but the vase which holds the flower.”

Through dramatic performance we are able to forget about ourselves while becoming someone else, if only for a moment. We can be transported to another time, another place and another way of thinking. With all of our inhibitions set aside we focus this month on breaking out of our shells to share a bit of ourselves with wild abandon through our weekly drama clubs which will culminate in a fantastic performance or reading of dramatic prose. We invite you to join us in this enlightening journey of self-discovery through the magic of theater this month. We will also be attending theatrical performances around town, where we can let our inner critic loose. One last opportunity to become someone else is offered during our Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations, where everyone can be Irish for the day. Join us as we feast on traditional Irish foods such as corned beef and cabbage, soda bread, shepherd’s pie and more! Lastly, March would not be complete without honoring the dramatic achievements of others with our own Oscar Party. This month we invite you to let your inner star shine at Juniper Village.

§  Trash or Treasure Antique Appraisal to discover if your antique items are trash or treasure, bring your treasures in for a free appraisal by local Pittsburgh area antique shop owner and appraiser, Ernest Grindle; limited to 2 items per guest and due to the complexity, we will not be appraising military items, stamps, or jewelry on March 5^th at 10:00 am. §  Caregiver Support Group Meeting monthly meetings approved by the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association affiliated with the National Alzheimer’s Association as this month we will discuss ways to help you treasure the moments with your loved one on March 9^th at 1:30 pm. §  Wear-in of the Green because everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, and what better way to kick off the St. Patrick’s Day weekend than with an afternoon of Irish jokes and music as presented by local musical performer Bernie Myer on March 17^th at 3:00 pm. (RSVP to 412-244-9901.)

§  Easter Lunch to celebrate Easter with family and friends at Juniper Village as we enjoy a delicious Easter feast that is free for residents and only $15.00 for guests with a limit of 2 guests per resident and all proceeds to benefit Juniper Village’s Music & Memory program on March 27^th at noon.
